Use the Period End Dates dialog to modify the end date of any period.

Choose Setup > Clients, click the Accounting Information tab, and then click the Edit Dates button, or select a different frequency from the Period frequency field, and then when prompted, choose the years for which to apply the period frequency change (for the current year going forward or for all years).

Rules for editing period end dates

  • You can change a period end date by entering a new date or by clicking the Down arrow button button and selecting the date from the onscreen calendar attached to the field.
  • Each period end date must be unique within a given year, and each date must conform to rules for that year's period increments. In other words, the first period end date for a given year must be after the fiscal year end date of the previous year; the first period end date for a given year must be before the second period end date, which in turn must be before the third, and so forth.
  • The dates in the last row of the grid are based on the date in the Current fiscal year end date field in the Setup > Clients > Accounting Information tab. This row is grayed out and unavailable for editing. To change the dates in this last row, you must change the date in the Current fiscal year end date field in the Clients > Accounting Information tab. When you change that date, the application updates the dates in this dialog.
  • The application determines the default dates listed in the grid based on the current fiscal year end date and the period frequency specified in the Setup > Clients > Accounting Information tab.
    • Annually. The period end date is the fiscal year end date.
    • Monthly. (Default) The period end dates will increment by one-month intervals (12 periods).
    • Quarterly. The period end dates will increment by three-month intervals (4 periods).
    • Semiannually. The period end dates will increment by six-month intervals (2 periods).
    • Thirteen periods. The period end dates will increment by 4-week (28 days) intervals (13 periods).
    • Weekly. The period end dates will increment by 1-week (7 days) intervals (52 periods).

    Notes

    • For monthly, quarterly, and semiannual frequencies: If the current fiscal year end date falls on a calendar month end, the period end date will be the calendar month end (for example, 1/31, 2/28, 4/30). If the current fiscal year end date does not fall on a calendar month end, then the period end date will be the same date of the month for each period (for example, 1/20, 2/20, 4/20).
    • For weekly and thirteen period frequencies: The period end dates are determined by using 7-day weeks, whether or not the current period end date falls on a calendar month end.

Fields & buttons

Use the Period end dates grid to enter new period end dates or to verify existing period end dates for the applicable years. To select the date from an onscreen calendar, click the Down arrow button arrow in the field.

By default, the Period End Dates dialog includes dates for at least three years - the current fiscal year, one prior fiscal year, and at least one future fiscal year. You can add dates for an unlimited number of prior years by clicking the Add Prior Year button for each year you want to add.

Highlight the column to which you want to add a week, and then click this button to add a week to the selected year. For clients with a weekly frequency, the application adds a 53rd week to the end of the year. For clients with a thirteen period frequency, the application adds a fifth week to the thirteenth period of the selected year.

Note: For weekly and thirteen period clients, this button is available for only the latest fiscal year and next future fiscal year.

Highlight the column from which you want to remove a week, and then click this button to remove a week from the selected year. For clients with a weekly frequency, the application removes the 53rd week from the end of the year. For clients with a thirteen period frequency, the application removes the fifth week of the thirteenth period of the selected year.

Notes

  • This button is available only for years in which a week has already been added using the Add Week button.
  • For weekly and thirteen period clients, this button is available for only the current fiscal year and the next future fiscal year.
