Populating Client Information from UltraTax CS to Practice CS

Save time entering basic client information by exporting it from UltraTax CS to populate Practice CS. 

How it works

UltraTax CS will export all clients and demographic information into Practice CS.

  • If an UltraTax CS client doesn't exist in Practice CS, it will be created.
  • If a client with the same ID already exists in Practice CS, this client will be skipped on the import into Practice CS.

Setup in Practice CS

  1. In Practice CS, choose Help > About Practice CS. If you have trial licenses, click the Download Licenses button and follow the prompts to install your license.
  2. Choose Setup > Firm > Preferences tab.
  3. Mark the Integrate this Firm with other solutions checkbox.

    Note: If the checkbox is marked and also grayed out, it means that this option is already enabled. Proceed to the next step.

  4. Choose Setup > System Configuration > File Locations and make sure the UltraTax CS data path is correct and pointing to the most current year of UltraTax CS.

Setup in UltraTax CS

  1. Choose Setup > User Preferences > File Locations.
  2. Mark the CS Practice Products option.
  3. Make sure that Practice CS and Practice CS client data locations are correct. The default location is X:\WinCSI\Practice CS and X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data.
  4. Click OK.

Process in UltraTax CS

  1. Choose Help > Repair > Misc tab. If you're missing this option, go to Help > About UltraTax CS and download your licenses. 
  2. Under the Populate CS Applications section, select CS Practice Products.
  3. Click Populate.

UltraTax CS may switch to Not Responding, which means that it's busy processing your request. Do not close UltraTax CS. If you see a prompt to end the program or wait for it to respond, choose to wait.

When the export process is complete, you can close UltraTax CS.

After populating

The clients may not appear in Practice CS right away. Depending on the number of clients you are importing, this process may take several minutes to complete. If your client data is not immediately available, wait 5 - 10 minutes and check again.

The client data will automatically be imported into Practice CS upon program entry, so no further steps in Practice CS are required (and if you are already have Practice CS open, the clients should be imported within a minute or two without having to exit the program). You can verify that any new clients have been imported by choosing Setup / Clients.

Once you've imported, any subsequent changes to demographic information is done via data sharing.
