To use the pencil annotation tool to add text to an open document, follow these steps.

  1. Choose Edit > Annotations > Pencil.

    Tip: You can also right-click a document in the Watch window and choose Pencil from the context menu or click the Pencil button in the Annotation toolbar. If the Annotation toolbar is not visible, right-click in the Watch window and choose Annotation Toolbar from the context menu.

  2. Hold down the left mouse button to draw a line.

    Tips

    • To draw a straight vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line, hold down the SHIFT key while you draw a line.
    • To move a line with the cursor, hold down the CTRL key while you draw the line.
  3. To change attributes for the pencil annotation such as the color or line width, right-click the annotation and choose Current Annotation Properties from the context menu.
