Reassigning associations for personal property tax returns

Show expandable text

If you have used associations (such as location or type) to sort/identify assets for property tax purposes in the past, you can use this procedure to quickly reassign a group of assets to the PPT association that is now required for the UltraTax CS personal property tax return.

To assign assets to associations that are required for UltraTax CS personal property tax returns, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the desired client.
  2. If you haven't already done so, enable PPT associations for the client.
  3. Choose Edit > Reassign Assets.
  4. The rest of the process varies depending on which association you are setting up. Click the appropriate link for additional information.
    1. Identify the association that was previously used for sorting/identifying assets for property tax types. (Typically, this was the Type association.)
    2. In the Focus group box, highlight the association that was previously used for property tax types in the appropriate drop-down list.

Note: The first time you open the Reassign Assets dialog, the field for each association displays "All [association name]." However, once a selection is made, the field displays the association value you last selected until the Reassign Assets utility is closed.

    3. In the highlighted association field, select the association value that needs to be reassigned. Now only the assets that are assigned to the selected association value appear in the Assets available to reassign pane.
    4. Click the Select All button.
    5. In the Reassign to group box, select the PPT type association that is appropriate for the current client from the Category field.
    6. In the Value field, select the PPT type that is appropriate for the assets displayed in the Assets to reassign pane (on the right).
    7. Click the Reassign button to assign the selected assets to the new PPT type association.
    8. The application asks if you want to reassign additional assets. Click the Yes button and repeat steps a - g until all assets are reassigned to the appropriate PPT types.
    1. Identify the association that contains information that can be used to establish the PPT city, county, and/or taxing district. For example, the Location association may be useful in setting up the PPT city association.
    2. In the Focus group box, highlight the association that can help identify the PPT association (for example, (All Locations)).
