Overview
Use this screen to enter information reported on the statement forms during a dual-status tax year. The type of return determines which set of statement forms are completed.
Return Type | Statement Form |
---|---|
1040 Return | 1040NR statement forms |
1040NR | 1040 statement forms |
General information
Income and Adjustments
Use this section to enter statement period income and adjustments, which may be entered either as dollars in the Amount column or by applying a percentage to the return equivalent item. Entering data in one field makes the other field unavailable for data entry. Fields that are not applicable to the statement type form are always unavailable. For example, when filing a 1040 return, the Alimony received (1040 Statement only) field is unavailable for data entry since the Statement 1040NR does not allow alimony received.
- When data is entered in the Statement period percentage field, none of the fields in this section are available. The percentage entered in this field will be applied to all amounts reported on the return.
- If self-employment income (such as business, farm, partnership, or other income) earned during the period of nonresidency is exempt from self-employment tax, enter an adjustment for the exempt portion in the Nonfarm adjustment to SE income or Farm adjustment to SE income field in the OtherTax screen in the Taxes folder.
Itemized Deductions and Withholding
Use this section to enter statement period itemized deductions and withholding information, which may be entered either as dollars in the Amount column or by applying a percentage to the return equivalent item. Entering data in one field causes the other field to be unavailable for data entry. Fields that are not applicable to the statement type form are always unavailable. For example, when filing a 1040 return, the Interest paid (1040 Statement only) field is unavailable for data entry.
