E-file mandate

The Iowa Department of Revenue (DOR) does not have an e-file mandate for fiduciary returns.

Forms included in the e-file

The State of Iowa and UltraTax/1041-IA support electronic filing of the following:

  • Complex trusts,
  • Simple Trusts,
  • Estate trusts,
  • Grantor trusts,
  • Pooled trusts,
  • Qualified disability,
  • Bankruptcies,
  • Amended returns

Forms not supported for e-filing

The State of Iowa does not accept electronic filing of the following:

  • Withholding,
  • Extensions,
  • ESBTs
  • Agencies
  • Charitable trusts
  • QFTs

Payment methods

The Iowa DOR accepts electronic funds withdrawal (EFW) for balance due returns only. Paper checks must be mailed for payments for estimates and extensions.
