1041-IA: US Obligations and out of state tax exempt income

Per the state of Iowa, deductions are the same as those shown on the Federal return, page 1. They are not adjusted for US Obligation income or Out-state tax-exempt income.

Expenses for US obligation are shown on the IA expense allocation worksheet. Expenses of municipal income are not allowed, and are not included on the worksheet.

There is an Iowa Administrative Hearing case that perfectly explains this, that you can refer the user to if they want to see for themselves…tell them to Google DIA No. 11DORFC018, Betty J Kingery Trust  v. Iowa DOR.
