New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

Follow these steps to export an UltraTax/1040 client's data into the BNA Income Tax Planner.

  1. In UltraTax CS, choose File > Open Client to open the 1040 client whose data you want to export into the BNA Income Tax Planner.
  2. From the Utilities menu, choose Third Party > BNA (Export) to open the BNA Export dialog.

Note: You must be in Input Screen Data Entry or Form View for the BNA (Export) command to be available.

  3. If this is the first time you are exporting data into BNA or if the location displayed in the BNA client data location field is not correct, you must specify or modify the drive and/or path for data export.
  4. Click the Export button to export the UltraTax/1040 client's data into BNA.

Tips

  • Due to differences between UltraTax CS and BNA, certain items do not transfer from UltraTax/1040, and others may require modifications in BNA after they transfer.
  • If the client already exists in BNA, UltraTax CS displays a message asking you to confirm that you want to overwrite the existing client data.
  • If BNA (Export) is not available in the Utilities menu, the following issues may exist.

    • You may be in Organizer view, rather than input screen view. To switch to input screen view, choose View > Input Screen, and then attempt to export again.
    • The license file required for the export may be missing. Verify that the IyBNname.dat (where Y is the year of the application) license file is in X:\WinCSI\Licenses (where X in the drive where the application is installed). If you do not have this license file, please contact Customer Service at 800.968.0600 to purchase the application bridge.
    • Verify that the BNS Bridge has been installed.

Support: Beginning with 2008 UltraTax CS the BNA bridge function is installed with 1040, and the menu item in UT is triggered by the xyBNname.dat license file. Prior versions have a checkbox in UtraTax CS Product Selection window to select for installation.
