New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

Use this dialog to configure the filenames that UltraTax CS assigns to tax returns, extensions, and client or business organizers printed to Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Each field in the File Name Variables list corresponds to a variable that can be used in the PDF filename. You can use the associated drop-down list for each variable to determine whether it's included in the filename and to set the position of that variable. This dialog also includes a File Name Example field so you can preview your settings.

To open this dialog, choose Setup > Office Configuration, click the Print Options tab, then click the PDF File Options button.

You can customize the filename of a tax return, extension, organizer or input screen document (the content of the Document Name variable) via the Document Names tab on this PDF File Options dialog.

Fields & buttons

The File Name Variables list contains the variables (such as Client ID, Tax Year, or Date Printed) that can make up the PDF file name that UltraTax assigns to a tax return, extension, or organizer. Use the Variable Position drop-down list next to each variable to determine the position (if any) of that variable in the PDF filename.

Click this button to restore the variable selection and position settings to their defaults. Doing so will place the Client ID variable in Position 1, the Tax Year in Position 2, the Document Name in Position 3, and the K1 Recipient Name set to After Client ID. The other variables are disabled by default.
