Associations are used to sort assets during data entry, enter information needed for UltraTax CS personal property tax returns, and categorize assets for reporting purposes. (Note that reports sorted by these categories are available in Fixed Assets CS, which is licensed and installed separately.) Use the Associations dialog to set up application-defined associations, define custom associations, and customize the placement and order of the association fields in the Asset Detail dialog.
To open this dialog, choose Setup > Associations while the Asset List window or Asset Detail dialog is open.
Special information
You can specify which associations appear as columns in the asset list window for an open client.
Fields & buttons
If a primary association has been set up for the current client, that association appears in this field. (For more information, see Setting up the Association Wizard.)
- To add acceptable values to the primary association, highlight this association and click the Options button.
- To modify the default association values or asset class for the primary association values, click the Wizard Setup button.
Click this button to set up the default association values and default Method/Life Wizard asset class that should be automatically entered based on the value you choose for the primary association during asset data entry.
If you have already set up entries based on the value chosen for the primary association, you can click this button to modify the default association values and asset class.
Lists all of the application-defined associations, any custom associations that have been set up, and available custom associations.
Use this list to determine the location and availability of the association fields in the Asset Detail dialog.
- Location: The first three enabled fields in this list appear at the top of the Asset Detail dialog in the same order they appear in the list. The remaining association fields appear in the Associations group box on the Other tab. Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change the order of fields in the list.
- Availability: To enable an association field for data entry, mark the checkbox for that association, and then define or set up the association.

Click this button to open the Association Properties dialog for the selected association. In the Association Properties dialog, you can modify the application-defined associations (except those for which the application provides the list) and set up custom associations.
