New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

You can use the data sharing feature in UltraTax CS to share general information (such as names and addresses) and K-1 financial data across UltraTax CS federal modules. By default, UltraTax CS enables data sharing for all clients. Use this procedure to change the default and disable data sharing for all UltraTax CS clients.

Note: If you chose to mask client SSNs by marking the Require a password to display SSNs checkbox on the Setup > Security > Security tab, the data sharing feature is disabled for all UltraTax CS clients.

  1. Choose Setup > Office Configuration and click the Data Sharing tab.
  2. If necessary, enter the master password and click OK to access the options in the Security tab.
  3. Clear the Allow use of the data sharing feature checkbox.
  4. Click OK to close the Office Configuration dialog.

Notes

  • If you want to turn on the Data Sharing feature, repeat the above procedure, but mark the Allow use of the Data Sharing feature checkbox.
  • If you turn on the Data Sharing feature after you have disabled the feature, you must rebuild the files. To do so, choose Help > Repair > Rebuild Data Sharing. You should perform this step when no other users are using the application. Also, depending on the size of the client database, this process may take awhile.

Tip: You can also prevent individual clients' data from being shared by using the checkboxes in the File > Client Properties > Advanced Properties dialog.
