Setting options for third-party application vendors to transmit e-files

If you are using both CS Connect and a third-party application vendor to transmit electronic returns, you need to set user preferences to indicate which transmitter should be used for the current returns. The options you set apply only to the current user and remain in effect until you change the options again. These options include the following:

  • Indicating whether CS Connect or a third-party application vendor should be used as the default transmitter.
  • Indicating where UltraTax CS should place the electronic file for a third-party application vendor after the file has been created.
  1. Choose Setup > User Preferences, and click the Misc tab.
  2. To indicate that you are using a third-party vendor rather than CS Connect to transmit electronic returns, clear the Use Thomson Reuters as the ELF transmitter checkbox.

    Notes

    • This checkbox appears only if you are licensed to use a third-party vendor to transmit returns. You must mark and clear this checkbox when switching between using CS Connect and a third-party vendor to transmit returns.
    • If you use CS Connect, you can specify the method you use to connect to CS Connect. To do so, click the Modify button in the CS Connect communications group box in the Misc tab, and select the desired connection method in the CS Connect - Communications Setup dialog.
  3. Click the File Locations tab.
  4. Click the Other option. ELF: 3rd party data appears in the File Types list. If you accepted the defaults when you installed the third-party application, the drive and path displayed here is C:\. This is the location where UltraTax CS places the electronic file when completed.
    • If the drive and path displayed here are correct, click OK to close the User Preferences dialog.
    • If the drive and path displayed here are incorrect, you must modify the data drive and/or path.

Note: When you use a third-party application vendor to transmit electronic returns, the Electronic Filing Status dialog is not enabled in UltraTax CS. You should direct all questions regarding rejections, acknowledgments, or electronic filing errors to the third-party software vendor's technical support department.
