Specifying tax return delivery preferences for clients

To facilitate batch printing of tax returns, we recommend that you specify a delivery preference for each client, which indicates the desired output type for the client copy of the tax return.

Specifying the delivery preference for one client

To specify the delivery preferences for one client at a time, choose Setup > Client Communications and select one of the following choices in the Return Delivery column.

  • Paper: This is the default delivery preference and indicates that the client copy of the tax return will be printed to paper.
  • Email (PDF): Select this option if your email program supports MAPI and you wish to automatically email the client copy PDF (and separate PDF of actionable items, if applicable) to your client.
  • File (PDF): Select this option if you wish to save the client copy PDF (and separate PDF of actionable items, if applicable) to a directory location on your hard drive.
  • Web: Select this option for 1040 clients if you wish to transmit the client copy PDF (and separate PDF of actionable items, if applicable) to a personalized, secure NetClient CS portal.

Specifying delivery preferences for several clients at once

To specify the delivery preferences for multiple clients at a time, complete the following steps.

  1. Choose Utilities > Reassign Clients.
  2. Select the clients for which you want to specify a delivery preference.
  3. Choose Return Delivery from the Category field.
  4. Choose the desired delivery method from the Return Delivery field.
  5. Click the Reassign button.

Notes

  • You can override the client's delivery preference in the Print Returns dialog when printing one return at a time. When batch printing tax returns, the output type is determined by the delivery preference, as specified above.
  • You can change the default return delivery method by choosing Setup > [Entity] (such as 1040 Individual), clicking the New Client Options button in the Print collation group box.
  • When you transmit a return to NetClient CS for a client who has not logged in to NetClient CS previously, UltraTax CS sends a registration message to the client's email address. The client clicks the link in the email message and then creates their own login and a password for NetClient CS.
