For licensed users of Accounting CS Workpapers

Use the Add Engagement Binder dialog to create a new engagement binder or to create one that is based on an existing engagement binder. Use one of the following methods to open the Add Engagement Binder dialog in the application.

In the main screen for the application, choose Setup > Engagement Binders and click the Add button. (Other ways to open the Engagement Binder dialog from the Workpapers Dashboard.)

  • Click the Add Engagement Binder link at the top of the dashboard.
  • Click the Engagement Binder button in the upper-left corner of the Engagement Binder Tree portlet.
  • Right-click a binder in the Engagement Binder Tree portlet, choose Properties to open the Engagement Binders dialog, click Cancel, and then click the Add button.

Fields & buttons

Engagement binder name. Enter a name for the new engagement binder.

Note: This name is displayed next to the engagement binder icon in the Engagement Binders Tree portlet.

Type. Select one of the following types of engagements from the drop-down list.

  • Audit
  • Compilation
  • Other
  • Review
  • Tax Return

Source. Select New to create a new binder or Existing to create one that is based on another binder. The options UltraTax CS and GoSystem Tax if you selected Tax Return from the Type field.

Note: When you choose to create a new engagement binder from an existing client, the following fields become available.

Client. Select an existing Workpapers CS client from which to copy workpapers and create the new engagement binder.

Engagement binder. Select an existing engagement binder for the client from which to copy workpapers and create the new engagement binder.

Note: You cannot select a client from the list that is linked to a PPC engagement.

Notes

  • When you choose UltraTax CS or GoSystem Tax as the source when setting up a new engagement, an identical tax folder structure is automatically created in the Engagement Binders Tree portlet for the following entity types: 1040, 1041, 1065, 1065PR (UltraTax CS only), 1120, 1120PR (UltraTax CS only), 1120S, 1120SPR (UltraTax CS only), 5500, 990, and 990PF (UltraTax CS only). You can change the tax entity type on the Accounting Information tab of the Clients screen.
  • You can add an existing engagement binder directly in the Workpapers Dashboard. To do this, right-click the engagement binder briefcase Briefcase icon icon in the Engagement Binders Tree portlet and choose Properties.
  • The application displays the name of the engagement binder next to the document icon in the Engagement Binders Tree portlet.
  • If you select Existing as the source, notes and signoffs are not added to the binder. Only the folders, folder structure, and workpapers are copied into the new binder.
  • After selecting the appropriate options in this dialog, be sure to select the remaining options that are required in the Engagement Binders screen.
