If you are licensed for and have installed PPC SMART Practice Aids with the Field Work module, you can set up a direct link to a new or existing engagement from Workpapers CS for dynamic two-way integration. Alternatively, without the Field Work module installed, you can add PPC Practice Aids as external workpapers via the Add Workpaper Wizard.

Method 1 - Two-way dynamic integration between Workpapers CS and PPC SMART Practice Aids

This method requires that you are licensed for the Field Work module in SMART Practice Aids to enable direct linking with an engagement binder in Workpapers CS.

Method 2 - Adding SMART Practice Aids as an external workpaper via the Add Workpaper wizard

If you are licensed for and have installed the Fieldwork module, you will not be able to use this method for adding SMART Practice Aids to the engagement. When the following question is displayed in the Rollforward Engagement wizard in PPC's SMART Practice Aids, Do you plan to use external management software?, the Yes option is selected by default and cannot be changed (grayed). Also, the Tools > Generate SMART docs command is unavailable (grayed) in this scenario.

If you are not licensed for the Field Work module in PPC SMART Practice Aids, you can save your PPC SMART Practice Aids to your local drive as a Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel workpaper and insert them into the engagement binder via the Add Workpaper Wizard as external documents.

Use the following procedure in PPC's SMART Practice Aids to save engagement files locally in a unlinked engagement.

  1. In the Navigation pane, select Generation from the drop-down list.
  2. Expand Generate Documents and click Audit Programs—or another program—to generate the selected engagement documents.
  3. In the Generate Audit Programs screen, mark the checkbox for each audit program that you want to generate.
  4. Click Create Practice Aids to generate the SMART Practice Aids for the selected audit programs.
  5. In the Create Practice Aids screen, enter the folder location or click Browse to locate the folder in which you want to save the audit programs.
  6. When the audit programs are generated on your local drive, you can add them to the engagement binder in Workpapers CS Workpapers as external documents (Microsoft Word) via the Add Workpapers wizard.
