Moving archives to a new location

Show expandable text

To move your FileCabinet CS archived data to a new location, such as when you purchase a new server, you must copy each Volume.xxx folder and all of its contents. For example, if your archive location is L:\FCSArchive, and you have the folders Volume, Volume.000, Volume.001, and Volume.002 within L:\FCSArchive, you would need to copy the volume folders and all of their contents to the new server.

Once the volume folders have copied, each user can set up FileCabinet CS to first look for the archive in the new location as follows.

  1. Open FileCabinet CS and choose Setup > User Preferences.
  2. In the File Locations tab, select the FileCabinet CS archive data path and click Modify Location.
  3. Set the default path to the location to which you copied the archive (L:\FCSArchive, for example) and click OK.

Note: Each FileCabinet CS user must perform these steps.

If a firm needs to move their archives from their local network to Virtual Office CS, we suggest that they use the method of migrating MS Office documents, if they own MS Office on VO.

They need to choose to move the data either to Y:\FcabData\$archive (which will be charged at the normal cost) or to W:\Cabinet_Archive (which is the lower-cost storage).

If they do not own MS Office on VO, they can use FileCabinet’s windows explorer window by right-clicking on a drawer and choosing Open C drive on local machine (V:).  This will give them access to all their local drives as well as the W: and Y: drives on VO.  They would go through the same process of copying data if they were using MS Office on VO.
