Scenario

There are various reasons why FileCabinet CS may take a long time to open, freeze, or generates errors.

Solution

Use the following steps to determine what the issue may be if FileCabinet CS is taking a long time to open, or if the application freezes.

Thomson Reuters recommends that you consult a qualified technician before performing the steps below.

  1. Run the Desktop setup installation
  2. Rename the ZFCUMSC (user preferences) and ZFCFOCUS (focus) files.

    Notes

    • This step resets all your user preference settings to the default.
    • If you are running FileCabinet CS on Virtual Office CS, you will need to contact our support line at 800.968.0600 and follow the prompts for Virtual Office CS Support. The file will need to be renamed by a Support representative on the server.
    1. Close FileCabinet CS.
    2. Navigate to X:\WinCSI\FcabSys (where X is the drive letter where FileCabinet CS is installed).
    3. Right-click the ZFCUMSC.<username> file (where <username> corresponds to the person experiencing the issue).
    4. Click Rename and rename the file to ZFCUMSC.old.
    5. Navigate to X:\WinCSI\FcabData\$sysdata (where X is the drive letter where FileCabinet CS is installed).
    6. Right-click the ZFCFOCUS.<username> file (where <username> corresponds to the person experiencing the issue).
    7. Click Rename and rename the file to ZFCFOCUS.old.
    8. Open FileCabinet CS.
  3. Disable the FileCabinet CS Home Page.
  4. Change the Windows Default Printer to another printer.
  5. Restart your computer in Safe Mode With Networking to determine the following.
    • If the application opens with conflicts in Safe Mode, we recommend, with the assistance from your qualified IT professional, that you identify and eliminate any conflicts. When you're able to clear the conflicts successfully, restart your computer and reopen FileCabinet CS normally.
    • If the application opens without any issues in Safe Mode, it may be an environmental issue that is affecting the application. We recommend that you contact your qualified IT professional for further assistance.
