Using CS Connect
CS Connect frequently asked questions (applicable only for local or network installations of the application)
Improving performance in the application
If you experience slow performance after making significant changes to your data in Workpapers CS (for example, after converting client data, restoring client data from a backup, or importing data from an external source), you can choose Help > Update Statistics to speed up data retrieval within the SQL database that stores your client data. We recommend that you run this process during non-peak hours as it may take several minutes to complete.
Note: The Update Statistics command is not available in Workpapers CS running in the Virtual Office CS or the Software as a Service (SaaS) environment where the SQL databases are monitored and maintained by our staff at the Thomson Reuters secure data centers.
Obtaining license files and application updates
You may need to first update your application license files. For details, see License information.

Changing the font size to correct issues with button displays
Buttons may not appear correctly in certain screens of the application if the font setting in your Windows operating system has been changed from the (recommended) default setting. To revert to the default font setting, complete the steps that pertain to your Windows operating system.
Windows 7
- Right-click on the desktop and choose Personalize.
- Click the Display link (in the lower-left corner of the screen).
- Click the Smaller - 100% (default) option and then click Apply to save your settings.
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Windows 10
- Right-click on the desktop and choose Display Settings.
- Use the slider to change the size of text, app, and other items to 100% (150% is the default). Dragging the slider to right increases the size, while dragging it to the left decreases the size.
- Click the Apply button to save your settings.
Using date shortcuts in Workpapers CS
Workpapers CS enables you to use several date shortcuts when entering dates throughout the application.
Note: When you enter transactions in the Enter Transactions screen, the application uses the dates selected in the Transaction date field in the Data Entry Defaults section of the Enter Transactions Options dialog as the current date. Therefore, if you enter a two- or three-digit number in the date field, the application automatically fills in the month and year of selected date option instead of the month and year of the system date.
Example: Today's date is 11/06/12.
- The selected transaction date option is Current period end date and the current period end date is 09/30/12. If you enter 14 in the Date field and then move to the next field, the application populates the Date field with 9/14/2012.
- The selected date option is System date. If you enter 14 in the Date field, the application populates the Date field with 11/14/12.
Correcting an out-of-balance Chart of Accounts
My Chart of Accounts is out of balance. How do I correct it?
Entering ending account balances in the Enter Trial Balance screen
The procedure in Accounting CS is a bit different. You can set up an Amount column (Amount type: Unadjusted; Period: Current YTD; Year: Current) in the Enter Trial Balance screen to record ending balances for your client so that you do not need to manually calculate the net change for each account. For details, see Entering a client's ending account balances for each period.
Configuring access to the Client Data Management Utility
The path to the SQL server data location, <file location>, does not exist or you do not have proper permission to it....
You are unable to access the Client Data Management Utility if the local machine's path to the SQL server data location is different from the server machine's path to the SQL server data location, or if you do not have the correct permissions set up to access the SQL server data location. For details, see Configuring access to the Client Data Management Utility.

Monitoring SQL database thresholds
When your Microsoft SQL Server Express database reaches a capacity of 80 percent or more of the maximum capacity, the application displays the following alert message when it is opened. This provides you with enough time to evaluate your next steps with your database administrator.
Your database has reached 87% of the maximum size allowed by your version of Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition. Please consider upgrading to Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition.
For details see, System requirements and SQL Server best practices for CS Professional Suite applications.
