FileCabinet CS requires a TWAIN or WIA driver to allow scanning documents. Before attempting to scan into FileCabinet CS verify that your scanner has a TWAIN compliant scanner and that it is installed on the workstation you are attempting to scan at. See Determining if a scanner is TWAIN-compliant for additional information.

Modifying scanning options

  1. Choose Image > Scan.
  2. Click the Options button.
  3. The Reduce Image Size on Disk checkbox will save disk space by saving the scanned image at a smaller size.
    • To optimize for black and white documents, click the Black and White Pages option.
    • To optimize for color documents, click the Color Pages option.
  4. Certain scanner drivers invert colors when you scan pages into FileCabinet CS, showing white text on black background. Mark the Invert colors checkbox to invert colors and reverse this effect.
  5. Click OK

Scanning documents

  1. Place the page to be scanned on the scanner.
  2. Choose Image > Scan.
  3. To select a scanner other than the default scanner, choose an image device type from the drop-down list and then click the Select button to select a particular scanner.

Note: If you are using FileCabinet CS in a Virtual Office CS or SaaS environment, you must use a TWAIN-compliant scanner.

  4. From the Drawer ID drop-down list, choose the drawer in which you will store the scanned pages.

Note: To store scanned pages in more than one drawer, choose << Select multiple drawers >> from the Drawer ID drop-down list to open a dialog in which you can select multiple drawers.

  5. To add the scanned pages to an image group in the selected drawers, enter the image group name in the Image Group field, or choose an image group from the drop-down list. To create a new image group, enter a name for the new image group in this field.
  6. To add a description to the scanned pages, choose one of the following items from the applied to field in the Keywords for searching and annotation section.
    • Keywords for searching: Choose this item to include the description when performing searches.
    • Keywords and all pages text annotation: Choose this item to include the description in searches and to add the description as a text annotation on all pages of a multiple-page scanned image.
    • Keywords and first page text annotation: Choose this item to include the description in searches and to add the description as a text annotation only on the first page of a multiple-page scanned image.

Note: When you enter text in the Keywords for searching and annotation pane, FileCabinet CS selects Keywords for searching in the applied to field.

  7. Click the Scan button to begin scanning. To scan another page or a group of pages, click the Another button.

As FileCabinet CS receives the scanned image, the Scan Page dialog expands to show the Image preview section, where you can preview, delete, and rename images.
